"THE RADICAL WEDDED IN A RADICAL WAY
1. The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary associated the word 'radical' with a lot of meanings. I picked two for the purpose of this writeup. (a) New, different and likely to have a great effect (b) A person with radical opinion e.g. political radical.
2. Elijah Amaonwu Kalu is not a conservative. He is an all-around radical - political, religious or traditional. I will give few examples.
3. Since the inception of Abia State University in 1981, the History Department (later History and International Relations) never produced SUG President. Elijah came into the department and challenged the the order in 2003.
4. His campaign was energized with the caption: "The Clarion Call". The call was real. It was a call to change the old order.
5. The University Chief Security Officer became afraid of this radical and disqualified him from the contest. The Radical took his case to the Senate through the Vice Chancellor. He was allowed to contest. He won massively and radically.
6. After graduation, Elijah became a career politician. He contested the State House of Assembly but was rigged out. The radical cannot quit. He is still in the game.
7. The radical did not only choose 1st October as his wedding day, he also took his radicalism to the Church. He insisted and convinced the Church leaders that he wants his wedding to be conducted in a radical way - African attire - no best man, no men on suit, no long preaching, no this, no that!
8. At the reception venue, the first to show up was the Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly. Others leaders such as the former SUG Presidents and Traditional Rulers also came to rejoice with the political radical.
The Clarion Call wouldn't have married any other person except the lady that knew him in ABSU as a fighting Lion. She is Nnenna Nwafor-Owoh now Nnenna Kalu.
9. As I was departing the reception venue, I remembered that I was part of the radical government of Elijah Kalu. Dr. Uche Ejere, who was the PRO of the SUG sent my name to the SRC for confirmation as the SUG Editor-in-Chief. I served the government of Elijah as the Editor-in-Chief but not as a radical Editor.
